Sophomore to Junior Summer Assignment

Assignment

As Sophomores you have just finished figure drawing and color theory and are approaching painting. Utilize what you have learned throughout the year over the summer. Create a self-portrait in paint.

The portrait must not exceed 18 x 24 inches. It may be painted on any surface and in any style that the student chooses, i.e. canvas with acrylics, paper with watercolor, plywood panel with house paint, etc.

The only exception to this is that the students are only allowed to use white, primary and secondary colors to paint. They may generate any colors they wish using these seven colors.

The assignment is due on the first day of classes September 2015. This assignment will be the student’s first project grade.

Sketches for the painting will be submitted in the sketchbook as the student’s first homework grade.

Materials:

Paint/liquid medium of student choice (must be water soluble – no oils)

18” x  24”  maximum (8” x 10” minimum) surface for paint

Sketchbook

Have a great summer and good luck!
